Bonito Lake: Just around the corner of Alto Hombre Gordito. The lake is frequently stocked with 1/2 lb Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout and Brown Trout. The fishing season on Bonito Lake runs from April 1 to November 30. The lake is open daily from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. No boats or other water craft are allowed.

The Rio Bonito leaving the lake has Stocker Rainbows. The river is made up of two parts. The Upper Rio Bonito, above Bonito Lake, and the lower Rio Bonito , below Bonito Lake.
High on the eastern slope of Sierra Blanca Mountain at an altitude of over nine thousand feet the Rio Bonito gets its start.
The first several miles of the Rio Bonito is small and fast with some of the best fishing for native Brookies in the Sacramento Mountain range.

Native brooks range from five to ten inches in length, with an occasional bull hitting 12 to 14 inches.
Sink a wooly bugger or a streamer 8 to 10 feet and strip - hang on.
For spin casters, tie on an Olive or Black Propeller Fly behind a bubble rig and enjoy catching fish.
Rio Ruidoso: Come and enjoy the sites and sounds of the River. The River is frequently stocked with hungry Rainbows. The best subsurface fly selections, Bead Head Pheasant Tail Nymphs or Bead Head Prince Nymphs, remain for Rainbows or Browns. Green Rock Worms and Bead Head Cased Caddis Larva continue as producing patterns.
South Fork: Good run-off on the South Fork. The fish here are not fussy, just toss what you have and have fun. Several flocks of wild Turkeys were noted meandering around the stream sides.
Eagle Lakes: Located on the Mescalero Indian Reservation. A New Mexico fishing license is not required but a tribal day fishing permit is. Both lakes offer fun fly fishing. The lakes are stocked weekly with some nice holdover fish caught throughout the season. The lakes are open May through September. Permits for 8 fish per day limit are available at the entrance.
Grindstone Lake: For the best time fishing Grindstone, take a float tube or other non-motorized craft on the lake and get to fishing. First purchase a boating permit from the Ruidoso Parks and Recreation Department at 801 Resort Drive.
Lake Mescalero: Dark wooly buggers have been taking a few fish late in the day. Get your day pass at the front desk.
